PETALING JAYA: Four police officers, including a policewoman, have been arrested for allegedly using cloned cars seized during operations since August last year.
The four officers, with lance corporal and constable ranks, believed to be from the Serdang and Kinrara police headquarters, were reportedly arrested by a team from the Bukit Aman Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS) on Saturday evening.
A source said one of the suspects was arrested at the parking lot of a restaurant located less than two kilometres away from the Serdang police headquarters at around 6pm. The other three officers were reportedly picked up between 8pm and 10pm the same night.
According to the source, the detained officers were between the ages of 20 and 40. They were also part of a crime prevention task force.
Among the cloned cars seized during the operation on Saturday were a Honda, BMW, Mini Cooper and Toyota Estima.
The source said the suspects were nabbed after intelligence and surveillance work by federal police showed that they had been using cloned cars since August last year.
However, it is unknown whether they have been using the cars on a rotational or individual basis.
It is learnt that the cars were brought in from Singapore and had fake registration numbers.
When contacted, Federal JIPS director Comm Datuk Abdul Ghafar Rajab (pic) confirmed that the case is being investigated under Section 29 (1) of the Minor Offences Act.-thestar
