Lorry driver assault: Cops interview trio who attend rally by truckers

KUALA LUMPUR: Police today recorded statements of three individuals to facilitate investigations into a rally organised by a group of lorry drivers at a petrol station in Sungai Besi here on Sunday.

They had gathered to protest and urge the police to bring to justice, a group of men who assaulted a lorry driver at a condominium in Bukit Antarabangsa here about two weeks ago.

The individuals called in were the assault victim, Nasrul Faiz Zulfahmi, Small and Medium-scale Entrepreneurs Association of Malaysia (Ikhlas) president Mohd Ridzuan Abdullah and Trucker and Snapper treasurer, Khairi Ali.

They arrived at the Serdang police headquarters about 11am to have their statements recorded to facilitate investigations under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.

Meanwhile, Nasrul Faiz said he hoped the individuals who assaulted him will receive appropriate punishment.

“I have not resumed working, and need time to rest,” said the lorry driver who is still traumatised by the incident.

Last Sunday, more than 200 people joined in a rally to urge the police to take stern action against those who assaulted Nasrul Faiz.

On Jan 14, Nasrul Faiz was assaulted by a group of men at a condominium in Bukit Antarabangsa, Ulu Klang when a lorry he was trying to reverse hit a Mercedes Benz, causing some scratches and the car’s registration number plate to fall off.
