SHAH ALAM: Police detained a 29-year-old man over his social media-posted threat to spray-paint female Thaipusam devotees who wear sarees deemed “indecent” during the festival next month.
Selangor police chief Datuk Seri Abdul Samah Mat said the suspect is believed to be the owner of a Facebook account through which the threat was recently posted.
“Following an investigation into the threat made on social media, police picked up a man at a location in Seberang Jaya, Prai, in Penang at about 9.20pm last night (Thursday).
“He is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation,” Abdul Samah said during a press conference at the state police headquarters here this morning.
Earlier this month, a Facebook user posted a message in which he threatened to spray paint on “inappropriately dressed” women during the celebration, which takes place on Feb 9.
