BUKIT MERTAJAM: A policeman suffered injuries after being kicked off his motorcycle by two suspects who tried to escape arrest in Kubang Semang here yesterday.

In the 11.30am incident, Corporal Mohammed Zahir Misadi, together with three other police personnel, were conducting an anti-crime patrol on motorcycles when they spotted two men behaving suspiciously.

Seberang Perai Tengah police chief ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said the policemen tried to stop the two suspects, who were riding a motorcycle, several times.

However, as the policemen were closing in on them, one of the suspects threw a small bag into a nearby small stream and sped off, he told Bernama.

“While trying to escape, the man decided to kick the motorcycle ridden by Mohammed Zahir, causing him to fall and suffer injuries,” he added.

Nik Ros said the three other policemen gave chase, and subsequently arrested the suspects, both aged 40.

Further inspections found two small packets containing syabu and heroin in the small bag discarded earlier.
