Penang police detain foreign workers in possession of revolver, bullets

NIBONG TEBAL: Police arrested two foreign workers and seized a revolver with six bullets at their shared house at Jalan Selamat Seruling Emas here today.

The arrests were made while a team of police was inspecting the house at a construction site at 12.45am.

The team found the 0.38 revolver, which had no serial number, with six bullets in the chamber, in a black holster. A man and a woman were in the house at the time.

The duo was identified as Imun, 32, and Kel Mung, 29, and they were detained after failing to produce valid identification documents.

Seberang Prai Selatan police chief Superintendent Shafee Abd Samad said the case will be investigated under Section 8 of the Firearms (Heavy Penalty) Act 1971 and Section 6(1) (c) A of the Immigration Act.

Meanwhile, Shafee said police arrested 14 people during a New Year’s celebration crime prevention operation in Seberang Perai Selatan district, which ran from 9pm yesterday to 3am today.

“A team of 110 officers was involved in the operation, and they checked 345 people and 318 vehicles.

“Five of those arrested were caught for narcotics offences, while the other nine were detained for various other crimes,” he said.

Shafee said 92 individuals were issued summonses for a range of minor offences.-nst
