Authorities whisk off Jong-Nam’s remains to HKL for post-mortem

PUTRAJAYA: A mortuary van carrying the body of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s half brother, Kim Jong-Nam left the mortuary of Putrajaya Hospital abruptly at 8.55am.

The van was escorted by four police vehicles was seen speeding off from the scene to avoid pressman.

Sepang police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Aziz Ali arrived at 8am at the mortuary with his investigation officers and left with the mortuary van about an hour later.

A source at the hospital who confirmed the identity of Jong-Nam, said his remains was being taken to Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) for postmortem.

“Specialist at the hospital here said the mortuary here was not suitable to conduct the postmortem, hence the body is being brought to HKL as it is better in terms of space and facilities,” he told reporters here today.

Reporters including foreign press were left blindsided when the van left the mortuary unexpectedly. No sight of the officer from the North Korean Embassy nor his family members.

Media personnel, gathering here since 7am, were not allowed to enter the mortuary which was heavily guarded by police and hospital security personnel.

On Monday, Jong-Nam was allegedly poisoned by two women believed to spies at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2).

Yesterday, Selangor CID chief SAC Fadzil Ahmad was qouted as saying, the police received a call of a body of the North Korean was sent to the Putrajaya Hospital from klia2 after he had complained of feeling dizzy.

Initial investigations found the deceased was at the airport at 8am to board a 9am flight to Macau.

It was reported, while waiting for the flight, a woman approached from behind and covered his face with a cloth laced with an unknown liquid.

Forty-seven year-old Jong-nam and Jong-un are both sons of former leader Kim Jong-il, who died in late 2011, but they had different mothers.

The former believed to have fallen out of favor with his father in 2001 after he was caught trying to enter Japan on a false Dominican passport.

As a result of the flap, Jong-Nam was dropped as the successor to Kim Jong Il. After Jong-Il’s death in 2011, Jong-Un ascended and Jong-Nam faded from view.-nst
