Four endangered eagles, baby crocodile, seized from Shah Alam homes

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) seized four eagles and a baby saltwater crocodile in separate raids in Bandar Saujana Putra near here and in Kanchong Darat, Banting.

Its director, Abd Rahim Othman, said the birds were confiscated from a house in Bandar Saujana Putra at about 7pm yesterday, while the crocodile was seized from a housing lot in Kanchong Darat at about 7.30pm on Feb 20.

“The eagles and the crocodile, believed to be under seven years old, are worth more than RM20,000 and are believed to have been captured when they were still young.

“All the animals are fully-protected species under the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010 and cannot be kept, except with a special permit from the Natural Resources and Environment Ministry,” he told reporters here yesterday.

According to Abd Rahim, the owners of the eagles and crocodile, who are both in their 40’s, were not at home when the raids were conducted.
