Gov’t agency director remanded for alleged corruption

SHAH ALAM: A director of a government agency under a ministry was today remanded to assist the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in an investigation into alleged abuse of power and corruption involving material supply contracts.

Senior assistant registrar Yusna Khadijah Md Yusop granted a seven-day remand order for the director which begins today.

The 54-year-old man, who was arrested at a hotel in Bagan Lalang, Sepang, at about 12pm on Wednesday, is being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009 for using his office or position for gratification.

He is believed to have committed the offences last year.

His 36-year-old wife, who was also arrested at her office during the operation, was released yesterday night after her statement was recorded.

A company owner, who allegedly accepted contracts from the director to supply materials to the agency, was remanded for seven days from yesterday.
