Jong-nam assassination: Second female suspect in custody

KUALA LUMPUR: Police this morning arrested a second woman in relation to the assassination of Kim Jong-nam, the half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, in a statement, said the 25-year-old female suspect was the bearer of an Indonesian passport under the name Siti Aishah, from Serang, Indonesia.

“Police have arrested another female suspect, believed to be involved in the death of a Korean male on February 13.

“She was also positively identified from the close-circuit television (CCTV) footage at the airport and was alone at the time of the arrest,” he said in the statement.

Khalid added that investigations were still ongoing and actions against the suspects will be taken in accordance with the law.

Today’s arrest comes on the heels of the arrest of the first woman yesterday at klia2.

She was in possession of a Vietnamese passport, under the name of one Doan Thi Huong, 28, from Nam Dinh.

Reports have suggested that two female assassins were responsible for killing Jong-nam on Monday, just before he was due to board a flight to Macau.

Jong-nam had said someone had wiped his face with a liquid substance, which left him dizzy.

He had sought help from airport staff, who then summoned an ambulance for him. However, he died on his way to the Putrajaya Hospital.

His body has since been transferred to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for a post-mortem examination, which was completed yesterday.-nst
