SUNGAI PETANI: A residential fire in Kampung Batu Hampar here this morning left a 60-year-old man with burns, and his son with a cut on his leg.

A spokesman for the state Fire and Rescue Department said firemen from Sungai Petani station rushed to the scene upon receiving a distress call at 5.24am.

“The fire involved a single-storey house and the owner and his son were injured in the incident.

“The victims are identified as Aziz Abdul Rahman, 60, who suffered burn injuries to his face, arm and back, while his son Azizul, 34, suffered a cut on his leg.

“Both victims were rushed to the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital,” the spokesman said in a statement today.

Firemen managed to control the fire by 6am with the help of volunteer firefighters from Merbuk, Semeling and Padang Lembu.

About 60 per cent of the house was destroyed and an investigation is underway to identify the cause of fire.-nst
