Penang shooting: Woman wasn’t pregnant, had no underworld ties

GEORGE TOWN: The 49-year-old woman who was shot dead at Taman Pekaka here yesterday, was not pregnant and neither was she involved in organised crime.

Penang police chief Datuk Chuah Ghee Lye, in announcing this today, asked everyone to stop spreading rumours on the case and to check their sources. “She was not pregnant. At the moment, there is nothing to indicate her involvement with organised crime.

“It (the shooting) just happened 24 hours ago, we have some leads and we are still looking into it. “Give us some time,” he told reporters at the state police headquarters here today.

Yesterday, it was reported that the woman, identified as Ruby Lee Poh Ai, was killed when two unidentified assailants on a motorcycle fired 10 shots at her while she was driving her BMW at Jalan Pekaka 1.

Lee sustained six shots to her chest in the 5.45pm shooting.

Her car crashed into another vehicle, swerved into Lintang Pekaka 9 before coming to stop when it crashed into a culvert.

Chuah said police are looking at all closed-circuit television cameras near the crime scene for possible footage of the gunmen in action.

He asked witnesses to come forward and hand over any videos of the incident to the nearest police station or to contact 019-444-6521.-nst
