Insurers to pay Lau millions

HONG KONG heartthrob Andy Lau (pic) is getting HK$80mil (RM45.73mil) in insurance compensation for his horse-riding injury while filming a beverage commercial in Thailand, reported Kwong Wah Yit Poh.

He is currently recuperating at home. For his loss of income during this period, the daily reported that Lau would get RM195,000 a day, based on his 51 days of stay at hospital, and another six months for rehabilitation (183 days).

The 55-year-old suffered multiple fractures in his pelvis and strained his tendon and muscle during the Jan 17 incident.

> China Press reported that a man in Penang finally met up with his elder sister after 65 years.

Huang Shi Jian, 74, was in tears when Chen Jin Lian, 86, flew in from Macau to Mak Mandin on Saturday.

Both the siblings were from Fujian province, China, but Huang was given away to another family when he was young.

He followed his family to Penang when he was nine and lived in Malaysia since then.

Both of them kept in touch through letters until a fire razed Huang’s home in 1994.

He lost her address while Chen’s letters also failed to reach him.

According to Huang’s granddaughter Yi Zhen, Huang was emotional during a video call, which connected him with Chen on Jan 20.

“They didn’t say a single word for at least five minutes.

“It was only after I kept telling him it was his sister on the other end that he finally called out to her.

“They were in tears,” she said.

Yi Zhen said both families also had a WeChat group where they exchanged festive wishes during Chinese New Year.

Chen was accompanied by her daughter Lai Yu Suan, son Lai Feng Rong and granddaughter Hong Jia Ling during her visit to Penang.-thestar
