Blueprint to help Indians out soon

CHENNAI: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak says the much-awaited national blueprint in aid of the Indian community will be launched next month.

The Prime Minister said a new machinery will also be set up to implement the blueprint.

The blueprint will cover the development of the Indian community, from education to housing and entrepreneur development.

“We will create a certain quota to be achieved within a set time frame.

“This is not just rhetoric. We are committed in ensuring that no Malaysian is left behind,” he said yesterday in an address to the Malaysian community and students based in South India.

Najib also announced that students with medical degrees will be offered housemanship on contract when they returned home.

He said when the situation warranted it and positions were vacant, they would be absorbed into the civil service and their contracts backdated.

“This is to ensure that you do not have to wait for long doing nothing,” he added.

Addressing South Indian captains of industry and representatives from leading chambers of commerce and industry here earlier, Najib said the door was open for them to grab opportunities at the world’s first Digital Free Trade Zone that he had launched in Kuala Lumpur last week.

He highlighted the potential of e-Commerce to strengthen convergence in the global supply chain.

Aware that India is at a critical stage in its own digital journey, Najib drove across the point of how his pet project with China’s Alibaba group could harness the power of the Internet economy.

“This initiative is part of our National e-Commerce strategy roadmap, and will offer a conducive environment for digital companies to carry out their businesses.

“There will be huge opportunities for investors, and we like to invite you to take advantage of this new growth area in Malaysia.”

The event was organised by the Malaysian Associated Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MAICCI).

Also present was MAICCI president Tan Sri Kenneth Eswaran who led a 60-member business delegation from the body.

Najib and Jack Ma of Alibaba launched the Digital Free Trade Zone at the second Global Transformation Forum hosted by Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur on March 22.

The DFTZ is the world’s first special trade zone that will promote the growth of e-commerce by providing a state-of-the-art platform for SMEs and enterprises to conduct their businesses and services.

Najib also made time to meet with Tamil movie idol Rajinikanth.

He invited the superstar to shoot the Kabali sequel in Malaysia.

The Prime Minister, who met the actor at his home here, said he was told that the script for Kabali 2 was being written.

“I asked Rajinikanth to shoot the movie in Malaysia. I said, after all, Kabali turned out to be a box-office hit. He is considering it,” he told Malaysian journalists here.

Rajinikanth, 67, had shot part of Kabali in Malaysia last year.

Najib met Rajinikanth’s family and posted a photograph with the movie star on Twitter.

“I caught a 10-minute clip of the movie at Rajinikanth’s home,” he quipped.

Kabali is a gangster drama which revolves around a gang war between Kabaleeswaran (played by Rajinikanth) and Tony Lee (portrayed by Winston Chao).-thestar
