GEORGE TOWN: A Datuk Seri developer, who was remanded for six days by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), will be released Monday after his six-day remand order ends.

Several journalists had gathered outside Island Hospital after learning that a magistrate would be at the private hospital to issue the release order on the 74-year-old man who was admitted on Saturday after he complained of health complications in the MACC lock-up.

A check at the private ward at the top floor of the hospital revealed the door closed with the signs “Do not disturb” and “No visitors” hung outside.

Two men, believed to be MACC officers, were seen at the visitors corner of the ward.

By 10am Monday, more officers had arrived ahead of the expected arrival of the magistrate.

The Datuk Seri and his 47-year-old son, who has a Datuk title, were arrested by MACC on April 11 and remanded the next day to facilitate investigations on a land deal involving a local foundation.

According to MACC, their arrest was linked to the March 29 arrest of a 70-year-old Datuk, who was remanded pending investigation into alleged abuse of power while he was the head of the local foundation.

The investigation of all those involved are being conducted under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009.-thestar
