Deputy manager stabbed to death in violent fight

MIRI: A deputy manager of a development project was stabbed to death during a violent fight outside a snooker centre.

Yusuf Sidani, 45, from Sabah, died in the 8pm incident on Saturday in the semi-rural town of Bekenu, about 60km south of Miri city.

Miri police chief Asst Comm Khoo Leng Huat said the police received a 999 call after the fight.

“The victim died on the spot with a stab wound in his chest. Two others, who are Indonesian workers in their 20s, were injured. They have been sent to Miri Hospital.

“One of them was stabbed in the back and was seriously injured, while the other had his fingers almost cut off,” said ACP Khoo.

It is believed that the trio were attacked by another Indonesian armed with a sharp weapon.

“We believe the fight started after a drinking session,” ACP Khoo said.

Police have started a manhunt for the suspect who is on the run.-thestar
