Jong-Nam Murder: Court Fixes May 30 For Re-mention

SEPANG: The Sepang magistrate’s court has fixed May 30 for re-mention in the case involving the murder of North Korean citizen Kim Jong-nam.

On Thursday, Sessions Court judge Harith Sham Mohamed Yasin, sitting as magistrate, fixed the new date as several documents were incomplete.

As such, the case was not transferred to the Shah Alam High Court.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Iskandar Ahmad said they needed an additional one and a half months to complete the necessary documentation.

Earlier, two separate police convoys carrying Vietnamese Doan Thi Huong, 29, and Indonesian national Siti Aisyah, 25, arrived at the courthouse just before 8am under heavy security.

They arrived several minutes apart and were briefly spotted exiting the police vehicles before being rushed into the compound via the court’s side entrance.

Criminal defence lawyers Hisham Teh Poh Teik and Datuk Naran Singh were seen arriving minutes later.

When queried by journalists, they said they were here to represent Doan.

Doan and Siti Aisyah are being charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murdering Jong-nam, who is the half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, at KLIA2 on Feb 13.

Jong-nam was killed after two women swabbed him with a chemical that has since been identified as the VX nerve agent.

Doan was arrested on Feb 15 as she was attempting to catch a flight back to Vietnam, while Siti Aisyah was detained early the next day.

They face the mandatory death penalty if found guilty.-thestar
