Kedah cops nab suspected trafficker, seize drugs worth RM100,000

ALOR SETAR: Police have arrested a suspected drug trafficker and seized heroin, syabu, Eramin 5 and ecstacy pills worth RM100,000.

Kedah Narcotics Crime Investigation Department chief Supt Helmi Aris said the suspect, a 35-year-old jobless man, tried to escape by reversing his car into pursuing police patrol cars, but failed and was intercepted.

The incident occurred at about 12.30am Friday at Jalan Tuanku Haminah here.

According to Supt Helmi, police seized 1.09kg of syabu, 1,170 Eramin 5 pills, 390 ecstacy pills and 234gm of heroin, with a total street value of about RM100,000.

“The drugs were found in a plastic bag in the car and from a closet drawer at his house in Taman Nuri,” Supt Helmi said.

The man also tested positive for amphetamines, he added.

Supt Helmi said the suspect has been remanded until April 13 for further investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for trafficking, which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.-thestar
