SUBANG JAYA: Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin pulled off a cool gimmick dressed in the Rimau mascot suit for an official function to launch a school sports meet here on Sunday.
It was not much of a surprise for the adults but the schoolchildren of SK TTDI 2 were thrilled to see Khairy in the 29th SEA Games 2017 mascot suit.
Khairy said he wanted give the SEA Games, which will be held in Kuala Lumpur, more publicity.
And as a run-up to the sports meet in August, he decided to come to the function disguised in the Rimau mascot suit.
“Now I know how it feels to be in this thick and heavy suit.
“I sweated profusely and the suit is heavy. Wearing such a suit is enough exercise for me for the day,” he told reporters after launching the Kuala Lumpur 2017@School project at the MPSJ stadium.
SK TTDI 2 is one of the 30 schools nationwide chosen as a platform to promote the SEA Games.
Khairy also said his ministry had so far collected about 90% of the RM80mil in cash and kind in the form of sponsorship.
“I am confident we will be able to will secure the RM90mil cash and RM50mil in kind and services,” he added.
He said the latest was a pledge by AirAsia as main airline sponsor for the event.-Thestar
