GEORGE TOWN: A prominent Datuk in Penang, who was remanded since Thursday over alleged abuse of power and position in a local foundation, has been released on a RM100,000 bond.

Lawyer Reza Rahim said the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) released the 70-year-old man with conditions.

“Basically, they did not ask for further remand and they are releasing (the suspect) on some conditions,” Reza told reporters outside the MACC building in Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah here Monday.

Reza said the conditions include a RM100,000 MACC bond in two sureties.

“We have paid the RM100,000 and are waiting to bring him out,” said Reza, who is assisted by lawyers B. Jeyasingam and N. Rajivan.

The suspect, handcuffed and clad in orange prison attire, arrived at the court complex here at around 10.25am.

He was then taken to the MACC building.

The Datuk had turned himself in at the Penang MACC office at about 8.50pm on Wednesday to assist in investigations into misappropriation of millions of ringgit in the foundation.-thestar
