Police urge dog owner to report beating

PETALING JAYA: Police have received a report regarding a man brutally attacking a guard dog in Bandar Kinrara.

The incident went viral after a video was released online.

In the video, believed to have been recorded on April 2, the man is seen attacking the dog at a guardhouse after it broke free from its leash.

The man, a Singaporean according to the video, fell from his bicycle after being startled by the dog.

However, at no point in the video does the dog attack him.

Halfway through the video, the attacker even uses a motorcycle helmet to pummel the defenceless dog.

A female security guard who tries to defuse the situation is also shoved by the attacker.

Another man approaches the guardhouse, but the attacker is seen pointing his finger threateningly at him.

After a while, he throws the dog behind the guard post. It is believed that he continued abusing it.

The footage ends as he picks up his bicycle.

The video was posted on Facebook by canine welfare organisation Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better (MDDB) yesterday.

“Until now there has been no information pertaining to the owner of the dog and I call for the owner to lodge a report,” Serdang OCPD Asst Comm Megat Mohamad Aminuddin Megat Alias said.

He said the police have received a report from an eyewitness at the scene.

MDDB rescue coordinator Irene Low said she hoped the Veterinary Department will ensure the man was duly dealt with.

“We cannot allow such cruel treatment of dogs to happen. There are just far too many such cases happening here,” said Low.

According to Low, the department took the dog with them.

“The dog has some internal injuries, but it can wag its tail and eat,” she said.-thestar
