Two suspected Mamak Gang members shot dead

IPOH: Two suspected “Mamak Gang” members were shot dead by police in Changkat Kinding, Tanah Hitam on Tuesday night.

The men, identified only as Misai and Ganesh, reportedly shot at pursuing policemen and also tried to slash them with a machete before police returned fire.

According to Acting Perak police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Hasnan Hassan, the duo had earlier led police on a high-speed chase for 7km on the Tanjung Rambutan-Tanah Hitam road at about 9.30pm.

DCP Hasnan said the suspects, who were driving a stolen grey Toyota Vios, did not have any identification on them.

“They used a fake number plate and road tax,” he added.

Up to March this year, police had received reports of 28 cases involving the gang, leading the Bukit Aman Serious Crimes Division (D9) to form a task force.

The joint coordinated task force was led by D9 together with teams from Perak and Penang, DCP Hasnan added.

“The suspects were involved in burglary, theft of luxury cars and other crimes in six states. The losses were valued at RM1.9mil,” he told reporters during a press conference at Perak police headquarters on Wednesday.-thestar
