Indian Lawmaker Rides Tractor To Parliament

NEW DELHI: An Indian lawmaker Friday made a unique entry to the country’s parliament by riding a tractor on the first day of the winter session, Xinhua news agency reported, told Bernama.

Dushyant Chautala, a little-known parliamentarian of the northern state of Haryana’s regional Indian National Lok Dal, has become the talk of the town.

However, local media reported that Delhi Police is likely to penalise the lawmaker for driving the tractor near the parliament, a highly secured zone.

This is not the first time an Indian lawmaker has grabbed headlines for such acts.

In March this year, a lawmaker of western state of Maharashtra’s Shiv Sena party, Ravindra Gaikwad, drove for 23 hours from Mumbai to Delhi to come to the parliament.

That was after he was temporarily barred from flying by all major domestic airlines for assaulting a duty manager of national carrier Air India.

In 2016, Ram Prasad Sharma, a lawmaker of India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), went to the parliament on a horse to protest against the odd-even car rationing scheme in Delhi.

Even actor-turned-politician Manoj Tiwari of BJP had pedalled his way on a bicycle to the parliament last year to protest against the car rationing scheme, aimed at curbing pollution.

Earlier that year, opposition Congress lawmaker Ranjeet Ranjan, a mother of two, hogged limelight by riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle to the parliament on the International Women’s Day.
