KUALA LUMPUR: Police said there was no immediate threat to the Asean Summit following the arrests of 12 IS militants who were planning bomb attacks in the Klang Valley.

Federal Internal Security and Public Order department director Senior Deputy Comm Datuk Muhammad Fuad Abu Zarim said security at the summit was sufficient and that they were remaining vigilant.

He said some 2,000 police personnel were on duty to ensure nothing untoward occurred during the summit.

“We have sufficient personnel who are in charge of security round the clock.

“We are ready for anything,” he said yesterday.

He was commenting on the arrests of 12 suspected Islamic State militants, who were planning to carry out attacks in the Klang Valley.

“I have personally gone to the ground to oversee our security set up.

“So far, there is no immediate threat to the summit but if there is, we are ready to boost security as and when it is needed,” he said.

He added that Bukit Aman was also cooperating with security personnel at the respective hotels and venues used for the summit.
