KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit opened easier against the US dollar today on lack of demand and ahead of the weekend.

At 9 am, the ringgit was traded at 4.4375/4425 against the greenback from 4.3990/4020 at 5 pm on Thursday.

The ringgit also traded lower against a basket of other major currencies. It declined against the Singapore dollar to 3.0977/1030 from 3.0803/0828 on Thursday and depreciated against the yen at 3.7004/7052 from 3.6634/6665.

The local note declined against the pound sterling to 6.7193/7277 from 6.6636/6704 yesterday and weakened against the euro to 4.9660/9720 from 4.9102/9140. –Bernama
