PUTRAJAYA: A chairman of a bank with a ‘Tan Sri’ title was remanded by the magistrate’s court to assist the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) investigation into alleged graft and abuse of power involving a RM15 million book publishing project.

Magistrate Nik Isfahanie Tasnim Ab. Rahman granted a seven-day remand order, which is to take effect today and will expire on Sept 5.

The 65-year-old Tan Sri was brought before the magistrate at 9.10am for the remand hearing, which ended about 11am.

He was the third person to be called by the MACC to facilitate investigation involving a RM15 million book publication contract related to country’s leaders.

The suspect, was picked up at the bank’s headquarters in Kuala Lumpur at 1.15pm yesterday.

The case is being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009 for suspicion of receiving bribes.

Meanwhile, a managing director of a bank with a ‘Datuk’ title and three others who were also brought before the magistrate were freed.

The others were a former procurement director of a bank and two publishing company owners.-nst
