Sanjeevan Acquitted Of Extortion Charge

KAJANG: Former Malaysian Crime Watch Task Force (MyWatch) chairman Datuk R. Sri Sanjeevan (pic) has been acquitted by the magistrate’s court here over an extortion charge.

Sanjeevan was charged with having the intention to commit extortion and putting fear into businessman Ong Lam Chin to hand over RM20,000 to him.

He was alleged to have committed the offence at a restaurant in Taman TTDI in Kajang at about 8pm on May 23 last year.

The prosecution had applied for a discharge not amounting to an acquittal on grounds that the complaint had withdrawn his complaint against Sanjeevan.

However, Sanjeevan’s lawyer S. Preakas applied for a full acquittal on grounds that the prosecution had failed to provide reasons on why the charge should remain.-thestar
