Perak Set To Flourish With SEGi Enclave

Perak’s human capital development and economy is set to thrive with the construction of the SEGi University College, modeled as a cosmopolitan education hub for hoslitic learning.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said the education hub dubbed the SEGi Enclave, which is valued at RM300 million in its early stage, is in line with the state government’s Perak Amanjaya concept to produce knowledgeable individuals.

“This SEGi University College will be the main campus in Perak. It will also increase local population when thousands of local and foreign students flood the area, as well as signify the growth of higher education in the state,” he told reporters after launching a groundbreaking ceremony for the SEGi Enclave project in Kledang, here Monday.

He said the state government planned to set up more institutions of higher learning and vocational education centres to support state development and goals under Perak Amanjaya.

He said institutions of higher learning can also catalyse development and progress in areas such as Seri Iskandar and Kampar.

“Completion of the SEGi Enclave will spur development in the state such as that in Seri Iskandar, which is home to Universiti Teknologi Mara and Universiti Teknologi Petronas campuses, as well as Kampar with its Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR),” he added.

Plans for the education hub includes construction on 24 hectares of land in Kledang, here, which will accommodate 8,000 students and 1,200 employees including academic staff at any time.

The new campus will feature a modern design with recreational facilities, on campus accommodation and a commercial lifestyle that promises comfort and benefits to students.

When asked to comment on Perak DAP chairman Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham’s statement that the government’s announcements for development were empty promises which were unable to resolve problems, Zambry said it only shows the opposition’s uneasiness with the state’s flourishing development.

“I would like to ask him (Ngeh) what problems are unresolved, when compared to the 11 months (during which Perak was ruled by the opposition) when not a single house was built. Have they built even one house for the poor in Perak during that time?” he said.

He said the residents want to see and feel the results of development and the state government is capable of producing long-term and short-term results.
