Sipitang To Get RM30 Million Police HQ

Sipitang Sabah

SIPITANG, June 30 (Bernama) — Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today announced an allocation of RM30 million for the construction of the new Sipitang district police headquarters.

The prime minister made the announcement when launching the Sipitang Top-spinning and Grand Bazaar Carnival here, to the applause of the thousands of people who had gathered at the Sipitang town padang.

The new police headquarters comprises, among others, an administrative building and a police station, a lockup, a multipurpose hall, a store for exhibits, a transport workshop and a garage.

Other facilities include a guard post, an armoury, a sub-station, a refuse collection centre and a surau.

The design of the police headquarters is expected to be completed in October this year and the tender called most probably in November. Construction is expected to begin in April next year, and would be completed in December 2013.

Earlier, Najib visited the Sipitang police headquarters and said he felt that the building was too old.

At the same event, the prime minister announced an allocation of RM2.7 million to build a stronger roof for the stalls area of the Sipitang Esplanade.

The roof is frequently blown away by strong winds.

Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein and Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal were also present at the event.
