Vacate state seat, Pas tells Hasan

KUALA LUMPUR: Pas has asked Datuk Dr Hasan Ali to vacate his Gombak Setia state seat, a month after it expelled the former Selangor commissioner.

Pas information chief Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man cited Hasan’s “hatred for Pas” as the reason he should quit as assemblyman for the seat he won on a Pas ticket in 2008.

“My advice to him is, if he (Hasan) hates Pas, and still has some dignity left, please resign as Gombak Setia assemblyman,” Harakahdaily. net quoted Tuan Ibrahim as saying yesterday.

Hasan had said on Saturday that he would not appeal against his “arbitrary” expulsion from the party, a decision made by the Jan 8 central working committee.

Hasan described the decision as “autocratic and undemocratic”, alleging that it was compelled by “parasites”.

In a press conference last week, Hasan outlined nine reasons why he would not appeal the sacking.

Among others, he said he was not given any notice to attend (proceedings) and defend himself against accusations, including his inability to carry out his duties as Selangor executive councillor in charge of Islamic affairs, infrastructure, Malay culture and public amenities, which had since been restructured after his sacking.

Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang later said the party had been vindicated for sacking Hasan, judging from his (Hasan’s) recent media statements.

Hadi said it was better for Hasan to stand as an  independent since he had been issuing statements based on his personal opinions, which were then linked to Pas’ policies.

Hasan had until yesterday (Tuesday) to appeal his sacking.
