Majority of young Indians with MIC, says Palanivel

KUALA LUMPUR: MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel is confident of the support from young Indian voters in the next general election.

“There are many types of young voters, a small group of whom we’re not certain whether they support us or not, but the majority of them are with us. I’ve no doubt about it,” he said.

Palanivel, who is Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, said young Indians must put their trust in the government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

“They can’t put their trust elsewhere. We’ve done a lot and everything that we do is in the right direction for them and their future,” he told reporters after opening the office of Koperasi Suria Malaysia Bhd in Bangsar.

Asked where he would stand in the next general election, Palanivel said he had not made any decision on the matter but stressed that getting the support of the people was more important now.

“I’ll decide where to contest at the right moment. A lot of people have invited me to contest in their place but the main objective now is bringing back the Indian votes.

“The overall picture is more important, not mine alone. So, it doesn’t matter where I’ll stand. The main thing is to bring back the support,” he said.

On MIC candidates, Palanivel said: “Some people tell me that they’re potential candidates, some people declare they’re winnable. Ultimately, I’ll make the decisive choice. We still have months to go, the main thing (now) is our preparation.”
