King: Unite against attempts to create chaos and disharmony

PETALING JAYA: Malaysians should unite against attempts by certain parties to create chaos and disharmony in the country, said Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah.

In his royal address to mark his 84th birthday Saturday, the King reminded Malaysians to be more careful not to be influenced by such parties which were only out to spread their own propaganda.

“I call on the people to be more careful and to think maturely as the peace and harmony we enjoy today is not something we can gamble with,” he said.

There is no “second chance” in preserving peace and harmony in the country, he said.

“The question is, do we want to see our beloved country paralysed by our own doing?

“If this happens, it will take a very long time for the country to return to the state it is now,” said country’s 14th King in his address aired Friday night.

Tuanku Abdul Halim said he was deeply saddened at attempts by these parties to threaten peace and harmony in the country.

He said these groups, under the pretext of “fighting for their rights” were influencing the minds of the people.

“They should instead channel their criticism or even protests in a well-mannered way,” he said.

Malaysia, he said, been through many “tests”, such the communist insurgency and May 13 racial riots.

“We have to ensure that such things never happen in this country again,” he said.
