MB Khalid: Selangor state assembly will be dissolved in March

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor state assembly will be dissolved in March next year, Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim announced Friday.

In winding up the state assembly meeting, Khalid told members of the House that preparations were geared towards a dissolution in March.

“Our preparations are for (dissolution) in March next year,” he said in response to a question from Azmin Ali (PKR-Bukit Antarabangsa).

Azmin had asked on the possibility of the state assembly being dissolved simultaneously as the Dewan Rakyat.

“If Parliament is dissolved in March, we do not have much room (but to dissolve around the same time),” said Khalid.

The state assembly adjourned sine die Friday after sitting for 10 days.

Members gathered for a group photograph after the sitting, as it was most likely the last before state elections, as the state asssembly automatically dissolves on April 22.

Later, Khalid told reporters that he decided to go for the full term in order to fulfill the wishes of the electorate, and partly as an election strategy.

“We’ve been asked to serve for five years. If you have the opportunity to serve, that’s because it is the wish of the rakyat.

“The rest (other reason) is election strategy,” he said.

Khalid said Pakatan Rakyat was happy to serve the people and now has a good track record of governance, with Selangor having healthy financial reserves.
