GE13: Husni rubbishes talk of contesting Perak state seat

Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah has quashed speculation that he will be contesting a state seat in Perak.

“Insya-Allah (God willing), I will still stand as a candidate in the Tambun parliamentary seat,” he said, refuting talk that he was tipped to be the next Mentri Besar.

Recently, Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir claimed that the Opposition had tried to put him on a collision course with Ahmad Husni, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (Bagan Datoh MP and Defence Minister) and Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz (Padang Rengas MP and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department).

However, Dr Zambry said he considered them his brothers and that they, too, had stated that they were backing him.

After flagging off the Perak Media cycling expedition yesterday, Ahmad Husni said the relevant authorities were monitoring any activity involving foreign funds being used for the general election.

He said the authorities included those from Bank Negara, police, Customs and Immigration departments.

“The flow of illicit funds into the country is not only being monitored in view of the elections. It has been done all along,” he said. “The aim is to curb or lessen the flow of such funds.”
