KUALA LUMPUR: SOME 100 people turned up to do their bit at a blood donation campaign organised by Royce Pharma Bhd in collaboration with the National Blood Centre (PDN).
The event at the National Blood Centre was held in conjunction with World Blood Donor Day 2013.
The donors comprised pharmaceutical, healthcare associates and volunteers from public.
Royce Pharma executive deputy president Datuk Chandrasekar Suppiah said the main objective of this programme was to support PDN to create awareness among the public and organisations on the increasing need for blood.
National Blood Bank Malaysia (NBBM) recruitment and publicity division head Dr Norris Naim said 400 to 500 units of blood is required per day to meet the demands of blood in hospitals around Klang Valley.
He also said at the moment there is a high demand on a daily basis to cater to organ transplants, accidents, thalassaemia, anaemia, dengue and haemorrhagic fever.
Tenth-time donor, Abdullah Ismail, 41, from Senawang said other than contributing money, donating blood was one of the ways for him to do a good deed.
“Donating blood is a healthy activity as it can help rejuvenate the body,” he added.
Abdullah also said he constantly strives to raises awareness about donating blood to friends and family members.
