PETALING JAYA: A six-month-old girl died at the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah hospital after being in a coma for four days. She was allegedly abused by a babysitter.

Klang Selatan OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Md Yusop said Nur Sofea Insyirah, who had a fractured skull and bleeding in the brain, succumbed to her injuries at about 2.30pm in the hospital’s paediatric intensive care unit.

“The babysitter was released after we recorded her statement on Wednesday but we can call her back for further questioning,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 31(A) of the Child Act, he added.

The babysitter, who is in her 30s, claimed she had accidentally dropped a milk bottle on Nur Sofea’s head.

The baby was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday after her parents found out she was having breathing difficulties the day before.

Her grandmother, who only wanted to be known as Umi, said there had always been problems with the babysitter.

“We noticed bruises on Nur Sofea’s body when she was first sent to the woman and she was only two months old then.

“When we questioned the babysitter, the woman gave all sorts of excuses and denied the bruises were from when the baby was under her care,” Umi said.
