White Forest NS camp operator given one week to buck up

BALIK PULAU: The operator of the White Forest National Service camp here has been given a week to rectify the faulty infrastructure and facilities.

National Service Training Department acting director-general Rozainor Ramli said it has observed several shortcomings in the facilities in the camp, namely the trainees’ quarters, and the quality of the food and sanitation of the general areas in the camp.

“If they failed to comply within a week, we will take drastic action…that would be to transfer the entire group of trainees to another camp,” he said in a press conference here today.

Rozainor added that the department had merely ‘rented’ the camp from a service provider and said the latter should comply to the requirements as stated in the contract.

On Tuesday night, the 200 trainees staged a protest at the camp over the squalid conditions in the camp and threatened to walk out.

They only relented after the mangement cajoled them to return and promised to make improvements.

It is learnt that the camp owner has two other National Service camps in Kulim, Kedah, and Malacca.
