KUALA LUMPUR: After a three-month lull, net buying on Bursa Malaysia jumped 17-fold in the week ending Oct 4, 2013 from the previous week, indicating interest in Asean and showing Bursa Malaysia is able to outperform the region once again amid volatile market environment.

In a statement today, Bursa Malaysia Bhd Chief Executive Officer Datuk Tajuddin Atan said Bursa Malaysia bucked the trend in Asean and that the return of foreign interest on the exchange were strong indications for the country’s marketplace which offered unique investment opportunities.

“Indeed this is an exciting time for Bursa Malaysia. A number of initial public offerings (IPOs) have also been lined-up in the fourth quarter which should draw further investor interest, beginning with the listing of Westport Holdings Bhd.

“On the back of these fundamentals and exciting developments that are creating a more vibrant market on Bursa Malaysia, we are delighted to be embarking on our global capital market roadshow showcasing the diverse and unique investment opportunities and regional leadership on Bursa Malaysia,” he said.

Bursa Malaysia will be hosting its fourth capital market roadshow Invest Malaysia together with RHB Investment Bank in Hong Kong on October 17, followed by New York, Boston and San Francisco in early November.

Meanwhile, RHB Investment Bank CEO and managing director Mike Chan said Invest Malaysia Hong Kong 2013 would showcase a number of top performing Malaysian public listed companies, both large and mid-cap, to Hong Kong fund managers.

“The growth of multinational companies on Bursa Malaysia has earned the exchange the distinction of being Asean’s multinational marketplace as it is home to a broad range of indigenous Malaysian companies that are tapping into the growth of Asean and Asia.

“When investors buy into Malaysian companies, they are not just buying into the growth of Malaysia but also benefitting from its regional and in some cases global reach,” Chan said
