JOHOR BAHARU: Two men were found drowned in the sea off the Tanjung Balau beach in Kota Tinggi last night, more than an hour after they were carried away by strong currents while swimming.

The deceased were identified as J. Krisna Kumar, 31, of Permas Jaya and R.Ghanapathy, 32, of Taman Ungku Tun Aminah.

A search and rescue team comprising members of the fire and rescue department and civil defence department found the bodies about 7.30pm, not far from the spot where they had disappeared.

The bodies were sent to the Kota Tinggi Hospital.

Kota Tinggi police chief Supt Rahmat Othman said the incident occurred when the victims – part of a family of 12 – were swimming before the duo were carried away by strong currents.
