PETALING JAYA: Cloud seeding operations will continue until the water in dams in the Klang Valley are back at safe levels, Meteorological Department national weather centre director Muhammad Helmi Abdullah said.

He clarified that operations had not been put on hold despite the recent increase in rainfall.

“Some of the rainfall did not fall over the water catchment areas and we will target operations over those areas.

“Cloud seeding will also help quicken the process and increase the volume of rainfall,” he told The Star.

It was earlier reported that cloud seeding operations would be put on hold for a few days as the country was seeing near daily thunderstorms and showers of the inter-monsoon season.

On Monday it was reported that dams in the Klang Valley were running dry despite water rationing exercises.

As of Monday morning, the Sungai Selangor dam in Kuala Kubu Baru recorded a 36.53% capacity. Its critical level is 30%.
