REACHING OUT: More than 40 sponsors participated in the KPJ Charity Golf Tournament in aid of poor patients

PETALING JAYA: KPJ Healthcare Bhd (KPJ) raised RM455,500 for Dana Klinik Waqaf during the KPJ Charity Golf Tournament recently.

Held at the Tropicana Golf and Country Resort, here, the tournament saw the participation of more than 40 sponsors comprising banks, vendors, local authorities, corporate partners and clients.

The Dana Klinik Waqaf fund covers 23 Waqaf An-Nur charity clinics and dialysis centres nationwide as well as the Waqaf Hospital in Pasir Gudang, Johor.

KPJ Healthcare president and managing director Amiruddin Abdul Satar said the tournament was part of KPJ Group’s community outreach efforts to extend medical care across the nation’s communities.

“For many years, KPJ has undertaken social service programmes. Our primary community event has been the provision of quality patient care through Klinik Waqaf An-Nur (Kwan) in various urban areas in the country.

“Under Kwan, patients are charged a minimal blanket fee of only RM5 each time they seek normal outpatient treatment and medication.

“KPJ also operates two mobile clinics in Johor and Selangor as well as several dialysis centres.

“Housed in refurbished vans, the mobile clinics make it easy for Kwan to serve the people in line with KPJ’s aim to be close to its patients,” he said.

The Kwan initiative began with one small clinic in Johor Baru in 1998 through a collaboration between KPJ and its parent company Johor Corporation.

Since Kwan’s inception until the end of last year, it has helped almost a million patients.

KPJ continues to provide clinical resources and medication to poor patients and contributes more than RM2 million annually in support of Kwan activities.

KPJ Healthcare senior general manager (group operations) Mohd Johar Ismail, who is also the KPJ Charity Golf organising committee chairman, said: “We have received tremendous support from various contributors.

“This is an alternative channel for them to help the underprivileged communities.”

The golfers participating in the tournament were treated to basic health screening like eye test, and grip strength and flexibility test.

Also present were Johor Land Bhd managing director Lokman Abu Bakar and Waqaf An-Nur Corporation general manager Norishah Md Seth.
