Two Mat Rempit jailed and fined for “Superman” stunts

KUALA LUMPUR: Two illegal street racers(Mat Rempit) who performed “Superman” stunts on their motorbikes were each jailed a day and fined RM5,000.

College student Kamaruddin Ismail and pizza deliverer Mohamad Hosnol Yusuf Harun, both 19, were nabbed riding their motorbikes with their chests lying on the vehicles’ gas tanks and their feet pointing straight backwards while roaring past vehicles on the Duta Ulu Kelang Expressway(Duke).

Both were caught in the act by traffic cops conducting operation “Ops Cegah Samseng” (Gangster Prevention Operation) along the expressway between 3.20am on

June 14 and 1.20am on June 15.

Kamaruddin and Mohamad Hosnol pleaded guilty when the charges were read to them before magistrate Amal Razim Alias today.

They were charged under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carried penalties of imprisonment up to five years, fine not exceeding RM15,000, and driving license revocation.

Amal Razim, while passing sentence, ordered the duo to serve an additional two months jail if they fail to pay the fine.

Prosecuting officer Insp Hashimah Hashim conducted prosecution while neither Kamaruddin nor Mohamad Hosnol were represented.
