Malaysians rally behind national carrier

Malaysia Airlines’ offer to waive change fees and provide refunds even for non-refundable tickets were met with positivity by its ardent supporters, with most declining it, saying they still had confidence in the national carrier. — TRP file pic:-

KUALA LUMPUR, July 19: Malaysia Airlines (MAS) received an outpouring of support from netizens after the company announced it would be waiving any change fees for those who wish to change their travel plans with the airlines, in light of the tragedy that befell MH17.

The offer was shared by MAS via its official Facebook and Twitter accounts, which immediately saw the airlines receiving votes of confidence from Malaysians as well as foreigners.

Ineke Muller ?tweeted, “I must thank you! I always had very nice flights and excellent service with smiling faces…so very sorry for you, I am Dutch.”

Alex ?tweeted, “very unlucky your airline has fantastic service and the company has been ruined by two disasters that were not your fault.”

Rohan Stroud tweeted, “If I had the money, I’d fly with you tomorrow. Just to support you in this terrible time. As a great airline, you didn’t deserve this.”

Responding to MAS’ Twitter account on the offer, Sebastian Trudeau wrote, “Thanks but no.. still flying with you in October and looking forward to it! #StayStrong.”

Another Twitter user, Jaspal Singh said he would be off to Auckland soon on a MAS flight and wrote that the airlines was still his first choice.

“It could happen to any airline. I am off 2Auckland on 23th on MAS. 8 of us. I have confidence & will still choose MAS as my 1st choice,” Jaspal wrote.
Meanwhile, using the hashtag #Stillbelieve, Hidayah Yusuf said, “I’ll stay with MAS.”

Shahirah Nurr wrote to the national carrier, “I will still choose Malaysia Airlines in the future. You got the best service ever, and my respect and honour still to fly with you.”

Some grew sentimental with the carrier, that was also known to be a national icon.

Zell Tan wrote on Facebook, “I feel so warm every time MAS brings me home and announces ‘warganegara, selamat pulang ke tanah air’ (Malaysians, welcome back home). This sentence is always in my mind! MAS together we seek for justice and stay strong.”

Lim Geok Lian commented below the MAS post on Facebook, “I will not change my MH air ticket, continue flying with Malaysia Airlines. Nothing can stop me with MH.”

Jenny Rose said, “I will always continue to fly with MAS. This is a horrific act of terror and not MAS’ fault. Please don’t hurt them any more by abandoning them now when they are mourning a loss too.”

MAS also announced that it would be issuing refunds, including for non-refundable tickets for those who wish to postpone or cancel their travel plans with dates between now and Dec 31, 2014.
