PETALING JAYA: Malaysia and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) are united in opposing the Islamic State (IS) threat in the region, said Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.
The Defence Minister said he and MILF chairman Murad Ibrahim agreed that IS should not be allowed to spread its influence regionally.
“I had a discussion with him (Murad) Monday regarding the IS threat.
“Both of us agreed that we do not want the region to be used by IS to spread its influence and ideology, ” he said following a meeting with Murad at the Ministry’s headquarters.
“In conjunction with Malaysia chairing the ASEAN meeting next year, we hope that all member countries will participate in the peace process.
“We have to be united in this front,” he said.
