Malaysia eager to explore Islamic economy with Dubai

DUBAI: Malaysia has expressed its excitement to work with Dubai and the rest of the Muslim nations to explore the huge potential that the Islamic economy could offer.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said Malaysia was keen to form partnership rather than competing with Dubai and with the rest of the world to explore the vast possibilities.

“We have taken note of Dubai’s intention to become an Islamic Economic hub,” said Najib, who is also the Finance Minister and patron of the World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF).

The prime said this during a Press conference held after the opening of the 10th WIEF.

He also called on the Muslim world to engage and strengthen their relationship with the world.

On WIEF roles, Najib believed the forum could use its platform to deal with generic issues that concern with the wellbeing of the ummah.

He reiterated his call to the Muslim world to stress on the importance of education.

Later, Najib received this year’s Global Islamic Finance Leadership Awarda (Country Category) for its leadership role in the global Islamic services industry.

The award was presented by founding chairman Global Islamic Finance Awards Professor Humayon Dar and former British Minister for International Development and chairman of Global Islamic Finance Awards Committee Shahid Malik.
