GEORGE TOWN: A woman was run over and killed after an argument with a car driver over dumping rubbish.

The car driver, 53, apparently went into a rage after Lee Seok Pheng, 47, and her husband, 57, accused him of throwing rubbish near their house.

The incident occurred at the parking space of an apartment block in Lebuhraya Thean Teik here.

The driver allegedly tried to mow down Lee and her husband after the confrontation around 12.30am Friday.

Lee fell to the ground and was run over while her husband managed to evade the car.

The driver tried to flee the scene but was overpowered by several eyewitnesses at the site.

Lee was pronounced dead at 1.17am at the Penang Hospital.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Mior Farid Alathrash is scheduled to hold a press conference on the matter later in the day.-thestar
