‘Datuk’ remanded over 1MDB probe

PUTRAJAYA: The magistrate’s court here has issued a five-day remand order against a managing director to assist investigations relating to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

The remand order against the 54-year-old ‘Datuk’ was granted by magistrate Lau Eric.

The man, who is a managing director of a private company handling corporate social responsibility programmes, will be investigated under section 17A of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.

This is the second person arrested by the special taskforce investigating the 1MDB issue.

Yesterday, MACC obtained a four-day remand order to detain a director of a construction and development company, also to assist investigations relating to financial irregularities in 1MDB.

The man had been arrested at Kuala Lumpur International Airport on Monday as he was about to leave the country. He was believed to have previously held a position in 1MDB but had since left the state investment arm
