KUALA LUMPUR: Born in 1925, Malaysia’s longest-serving Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad turns 90 today.
Netizens took to the social media to wish him well and express gratitude for contribution to the country over the years.
On Twitter, BBC Malaysia correspondent Jennifer Pak (@jpak25) said: “One of Asia’s longest serving leaders, #Mahathir turns 90 today.
On Monday he told me he still rides horses.” Dhirar (@dhrrzrm) said: “Happy 90th birthday #Mahathir Mohamad.
The one who changed Malaysia” and Tunku Sha’ila (@tunkutosh) said: “Happy 90th Birthday Tun M @Suara_generasi @chedet_cc! A BIG thank you for all u have done for us, Malaysians.”
Another Twitter user Ooi Kok Hin (@ooikokhin) mused on the former premier’s good health by saying: “The man is 90 but walks around like he’s 45. Maybe he should be Health Minister in the next life. Happy 90th, Tun.”
Mahathir’s eldest of seven children, Marina, shared two pictures of herself and her father, one of which was a selfie, which had garnered over 100,000 “likes” and almost 5,200 shares on Facebook.
She also included a message which read: “To my dearest Daddy, Happy 90th birthday! May you always continue to enjoy your robust health, may you always have the strength and courage to do what you think is right, and the time to enjoy the love of your children, grandchildren and your new great-granddaughter.
May Allah bestow all his blessings on you always. I love you.”
There were also over 500 well wishers on Tun M’s official Facebook page, “Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad” from his fans and supporters, many of whom shared the same birthday as him. The page admin encouraged followers to include pictures of themselves with Tun M with their messages and email it to [email protected].
