KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Vice President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has warned the involvement of a party leader with opposition to topple the government.

“There are efforts to back stab the government. It is taking place actively now. “I can smell it. As a Home Minister I got to know there is conspiracy against the government that was elected through a democratic process,” he said.

Zahid said he received the information from a reliable source. “An Umno leader is working together with the opposition to prepare a Statutory Declaration (SD) to overthrow the leadership,” he said at the Ampang Umno division meeting today.

He said the SD is a seven page document and printed on a yellow coloured pages and is meant to get signatures so as to show a majority support in a bid to overthrow the government.

Zahid also said there are efforts to recruit Barisan Nasional members to sign the SD. “This is a serious matter. I don’t want to mention the name of the person.” He said those who are conspiring to overthrow the government are impatient.
