MIC nomination hit by sticks and stones

KUALA LUMPUR: A fracas broke out at the MIC presidential nominations, after supporters of former president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel tried to enter nomination grounds.

In attempt to prevent their entry, acting president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam’s supporters allegedly began throwing stones, plastic water bottles and sticks at them.

A shouting match ensued, as Palanivel’s supporters immediately retaliated by throwing the items back at those behind the MIC headquarters’ gates.

Police quickly ushered in media personnel into the building while trying to calm both sides down.

Former MIC vice president Datuk S. Sothinathan then managed to tell Palanivel supporters to leave. MIC Youth member Vishnu Pradap, 31, said the stones thrown were the size of oranges.

“We were just walking, standing… suddenly stones came falling from above. “I was shocked and confused as to what was happening.

“The white rocks were as big as oranges,” Vishnu said, describing the commotion that occurred on MIC headquarter grounds.

Vishnu was seen after the incident with a bleeding cotton plaster between his eyebrows. He said he still did not know who attacked them.
