KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit continued to gain momentum against the US dollar in opening steady today, while influenced by the bullish external market, dealers said.

At 9.05 am, the local unit was quoted at 4.2060/2140 to the greenback from 4.2290/2360 yesterday.

A dealer said the local note was moving to more solid ground with its continued momentum in tracking the higher dollar, which rose to a one-week high against other major currencies.

“The greenback traded higher following upbeat data (durable goods orders) that improved two per cent in July,” he added.

The ringgit also traded higher against a basket of major currencies. It rose against the Singapore dollar to 3.0054/0130 from 3.0190/0261 on Thursday and was higher versus the yen at 3.4674/4749 from 3.5122/5194.

It appreciated against the pound sterling at 6.4840/4971 from 6.5478/5607 and strengthened against the euro to 4.7267/7365 from 4.7707/7803. –BERNAMA
